Discovery of the Orangery Park in Strasbourg
Discovering the favorite place of the Strasbourgeois to walk...
A little history on the Orangery Park in Strasbourg
Strasbourg's main park, the Orangery Park dates from the 18th century and owes its current name to the period of the French Revolution. At that time, 40 orange trees had to be sheltered when the republicans confiscated them.
The Josephine Pavilion was also created and built in the heart of the park for this purpose.
The orange trees can no longer be seen today, but the Josephine Pavilion has become a cultural place with different exhibitions.
There is a lake where it is good to stroll in a boat, which was dug before the industrial and craft exhibition which took place in 1895.
This industrial and handicraft exhibition doubled the surface area of the park.
Afterwards, the construction of different elements is gradually taking place:
- The picturesque half-timbered houses, which is the restaurant of the Buerehiesel Park
- The Temple of Love, surrounded by water features, bridges and fountains.
- The two statues:
- the traditional Gaenseliesel
- the poetic Thieving Well
