Discover the Grande Île in Strasbourg

An island in Strasbourg? You should quickly discover the must-sees of historic Strasbourg!

Notre-Dame de Strasbourg Cathedral

Welcome to the most visited cathedral in France. Why is it so? It's a must-see on Strasbourg's Big Island! As well as dominating Alsace, it is the very symbol of the city.

Nearly three centuries of gothic art went into the construction of the historic monument in pink Vosges sandstone. From afar, close up, from the outside or inside, take the time to admire each detail from a different angle.

This exceptional place offers its visitors a return to the past. Discover how it blends heritage and new technologies before climbing to the top by the steps.

📍 Place de la Cathédrale, 67 000 Strasbourg
🗓 Open every day
⏰ From 8.30 to 11.15 am and from 12.45 to 5.45 pm and only from 2 to 5.15 pm on Sundays and public holidays
💸 Free visit; presentation of the astronomical clock: €2; access to the platform: €8

The Rohan Palace

Very close to the cathedral is another of the town's must-see monuments: the Palais Rohan. Originally the home of the four cardinals of Rohan, it was then successively a town hall and the imperial and royal palace of Strasbourg. It is a perfect example of the classical architecture of 18th century France.

Today, it houses the city's archaeological museum, fine arts museum and decorative arts museum.

📍 2 Place du Château, 67000 Strasbourg
🗓 Open every day according to the museums' opening hours
💸 Prices to be found on the official websites of each museum

Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Church

Mix history and art during your visit to the Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Church. The Protestant church was built on the site of a Merovingian chapel. Romanesque, then under the influence of Gothic, the place of worship has frescoes from the 16th century that are a must-see.

Walk through the past of this place where perfect serenity reigns. Stroll through its majestic period cloister and take care to observe every painting within the religious monument.

📍 Place Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune, 67 000 Strasbourg
🗓 Open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
⏰ From 12 noon to 6 pm

Place Kléber

Stroll around the city's most famous square. Indeed, this is where the Strasbourg Christmas market and its big tree are set up. During the rest of the year, it is a place where the locals and travellers come to life in the early hours of the morning.

Numerous shops can be found nearby in the Aubette shopping mall. In the centre of the square, you will find the statue of General Kléber with the vault that contains his ashes.
